I'm happy to hear that you've found a solution. However, even if you already know this, I would strongly suggest moving to Anki. It has so many advantages over ZDT that I see no reason whatsoever to use ZDT anymore. In Anki, you can for instance limit the number of new characters you get or put flashcards on hold. Anki is more versatile in general and I have found nothing ZDT can do that Anki doesn't do better!

I wrote more about it here: http://www.snigel.nu/?p=6283

Nevermind, I figured out how to export a category, modify the text file, and then import it as a new category. Thanks so much for creating the file for this textbook!

Hi Olle,
rather than try to figure out how to convert, I just downloaded ZDT and the threshold backup file you created. It's working great, but I have a question. There are 214 characters in the Radicals category, so when I try to do the Radicals as flash cards, it seems overwhelming.

I thought maybe I could learn the first 20 on the list and then start on the next 20 and so on, but I can't figure out how to do this with flashcards; it seems flashcards are always random : (

I know you don't use ZDT anymore, but do you have any advice for me.

Hi!

No, I'm afraid I don't, since it was years and years ago I used that series. However, it's fairly easy to convert the ZDT format to a format that is possible to import into Anki. I converted about 7000 words this way and it wasn't that difficult. You need to edit the file so as to match a format Anki can recognise, although I don't remember anymore exactly what I did.

Hi Olle,
I just downloaded Anki but I'm going to have to figure out how to use it. Do you have cards that I can use with this program from Short-Term Spoken English 2nd Edition Threshold Vol.1?

I don't use ZDT anymore, and I don't have time to install in now just to check. I opened the files in a normal text editor and the chapter heading are included. This would probably be the easiest way to do it. If you're interested, this is what I use instead of ZDT: http://www.snigel.nu/?p=6283

Hey,
thanks for your answer. That's pretty odd; I'm using ZDT version 7 and the words only appear in one long list of around 1500 characters with 'Characters - Pinyin - Definition' and no apparent subdivision into chapters. I AM new to ZDT but I think I looked everything through and didn't come up with a solution. Is it possible to open your STSC wordlist with other software than ZDT to copy into a programme like Word manually? And have you been able to print your wordlist as flashcards? Thanks for your time. I'll buy you a beer some day!

I think you must be missing something. I just checked the file and the words are sorted into chapters, with a proper heading before each chapter. I don't really understand the problem here.

Hey Olle,
thanks for the big effort you put into assembling the word lists and uploading them! I imported the word lists into ZDT without any problems. However, there is apparently no possibility of printing the cards from ZDT so it seems that the only option to print the cards is to copy the entries from ZDT to a predefined table in Microsoft Word (please correct me if I'm wrong!). But apparently the vocabulary from Short Term Spoken Chinese is not organized with reference to the lessons the words appear in - and figuring out which word belongs to what lesson and then typing it manually in Word will be a pain with more than 1500 words in the vocabulary. So I was hoping that you had any thoughts / help to offer regarding that issue. Thanks, buddy!
