[...] Seriously, why Chinese? In this article, my goal isn’t to warn people not to study Chinese, but I think it’s in place to ask yourself this question, why Chinese of all languages? It will take you significantly longer to learn than any Indo-European language you care to mention and is it really worth the effort? It should be noted that I still study Chinese long after I wrote this article. [...]

Staffan: Nice to hear it. :) I can add Chinesepod to the recommendation. They have over one thousand audio lessons for Mandarin Chinese, sorted into different levels according to ability. Very, very, very useful.

I picked up chinese again, this time using Pimsleur type lessons, it seems to work surprisingly well actually, though I think it will be hard to learn chinese this way if you have not already learned to pronounce correctly. Just a tip to anyone thinking of picking up this language after being intrigued by Olle. :)

[...] Seriously, why Chinese? - Here in Taiwan, the situation is not different, because Taiwanese people also want to know why I study Chinese. My habitual answer is because the language intrigues me. Today, however, I asked myself that question. … addthis_url = 'http%3A%2F%2Fwww.mandarinclassesblog.com%2Fmandarin-classes%2Fmandarin-classes-lesson-fourteen'; addthis_title = 'Mandarin+Classes+Lesson+Fourteen'; addthis_pub = ''; [...]
