I’ve always been a minimalist, so changing from the old design (reference image) was difficult in many ways. The new design (reference image) is still fairly simple, but does incorporate graphics in the form of the calligraphy to the right. In this post, i want to do two things: open up a channel for feedback and introduce the design itself.
As I stated in the previous entry about the 1000th post, the most important thing about this new design is that it isn’t finished yet; I need your help. There are three things I need:
– General comments about the design
– Reports of problems (see list below)
– Suggest improvements
First, it would be nice but not strictly necessary to hear what you think about the design. I’ve received invaluable help from a number of people, but it’s still my idea and my implementation of it. I’m satisfied, but I know there are lots of things to improve.
Second, there are problems. It’s difficult for me to find them all, so if you run into anything that isnt’t working the way it should, please contact me (a comment to this post would be the easiest way) and tell me what’s wrong. Here is a list of things I already know isn’t working, so you don’t need to report any of the following problems:
– Feed isn’t working (see details)
– Search page design is broken
– Category pages aren’t listing post titles
– Archive page isn’t very helpful
– Nyx page redirection is broken
– Design breaks down in IE 7 (I need help!)
Third, there are lots of things that are working, but could be improved in a number of ways (aesthetically, functionally). Here are a couple of things I want to change:
– Shift entire site a little bit to the left
– Add footer with information
– Add credits to about page
– Add “recent comments” to menu
– Add quotes to menu
– Add padding to images in body
– Adjust main width to old width (old pictures are too big)
– Improve comment footer
If you feel you can help or just want to say something in general, please don’t hesitate to post a comment below.

The entire site looks fucked-up when I view it in Explorer (version 7). The sidebar menu with the Chinese graphics has fallen down to the bottom, the main column has jumped to the left and the header slightly covers the main column text.

That’s odd. I tried it in a slightly older version of IE and it looks okay (although not exactly the way I want it to, I can live with the difference). The problem is that I don’t know enough about these things to have any clue how to solve it. I’ll try to find somebody who can help. Thanks anyway, I use Windows infrequently and never IE, so it would have taken me a while to notice this problem.
