Snigelism: Introduction

Since I was about seventeen I’ve been interested in the subject of self-improvement. I strongly believe that I can change the way I am, in order to function better in life. It started with a rather long journey beginning with Daoism and ending with Zen. Though some of these concepts are now part of me and my way of being, I can sense something new emerging. A blending of ideas and concepts from my past, continuously interacting with my surroundings. A way of life, you might say.

My intentions with this project are, of course, manifold. To be brief, it will be a series of articles relating to everyday life and the practical philosophy that I use in order to cope with life. At this moment in time I can identify three goals with this guide/project/etcetera.

The first goal is most important to me. By writing about my thoughts, experiences and dreams, I get to know myself. This is essential to me in many ways. Ultimately, the methods I use might work for others as well and through dialogue I hope to learn about your methods. My knowledge of my mind and body will be the foundation of everything in this guide. Alas, my goal is by no means to write general articles applicable for everyone, although I am happy if only one of you benefits from them in any way.

The second goal is also important, though not as essential as the first one. For a long time I have been doing all writing on these subjects privately, not sharing with others except for a few close friends when I’ve found it appropriate. I see two valuable reasons for going online with this. Firstly, I might inspire someone. Secondly, I hope to get feedback and comments on the articles I write. By sharing my thoughts, I hope to help my own evolution as well as that of others, whoever you are.

The third goal is minuscule compared to the other two. Up until today, everything I have published online has been in Swedish, which is of course my native language. I am very well aware that I’m infinitely much more fluent in Swedish, but this is a step towards declining the gap between the two languages. I’m studying to become a teacher and although I haven’t yet decided on which subjects to teach, English is a prime candidate. I have to start preparing for that, and it starts here.

As of this moment, there are a lot of articles in my mental pipeline, outlining my thoughts on very basic everyday things (sleeping, exercising, getting things done, time management, writing, and other topics). As usual, I will publish articles fairly irregularly, depending on time and motivation available in my current situation. My university studies are not very demanding at the moment, so I hope to get you something soon. Stay tuned…

This wasn’t a boring read. Snailism (Snigelsim) is indeed an interesting way of living. But still, there is alot of work to be done since you so far only got 3 topics ;)
