Roll call and start of term

Yesterday was the first day on my Chinese education and it was a mixed bag of experiences. Let me begin by saying that I am ill and have a slight fever, which does not make me motivated to write thoroughly about the day. Fortunately, that constitutes the only bad things with the day. We had four hours scheduled for the day, two before lunch and two afterwards.

After a roll call, the tuition started almost immediately with an introduction to Chinese phonetics and Chinese characters. I had assumed that there would be a lot more information and introduction to the courses themselves, but I am very satisfied that it turned out as it did. I have now bought the text books, which means that should my fever remain tomorrow, I at least have something to occupy myself with.

At the moment, I am very positive about studying Chinese and I hope I will continue to feel that way. I have a tendency to invest an awful lot of time in projects I start, and I think that learning Chinese will require all resources I can muster. I have been told that there is a pretty high pressure on learning many characters, so even if it feels like I would like more immediately, I am sure that I will have the opportunity to regret that statement later.

I will return to this subject whenever I have something interesting to say, but now I feel weary and really ought to go to bed. I hope to be able to go to a party in Norrköping tomorrow, but if I stay up much longer, I will reduce my chances of ridding myself of this fever to zero. So, good night to you all.
