…and moving in

It might be the case that the snail carries its house on its back, but nevertheless, this particular snail needs somewhere to live and the house is more of the metaphoric persuasion. It took a while (I have been on the move since noon), but now the smoke begins to clear and my room looks more like something one might want to live in than a storage facility for boxes of various shapes and sizes (I am indebted to those of you who helped me, do not hesitate to ask for a return favour at any time).

The first hour felt similar to those computer games in which one is supposed to push boxes (or whatever) around, and to avoid being trapped in the process. The sofa should be by the window, but there are six boxes and a couple of loudspeakers there right now, which have to be moved to where the computers are. Naturally, the computers cannot be moved, because the sofa is in the way. Loop. By juggling around for three hours, the number of boxes has subsided gradually and it is now possible to move about freely. The bed is still littered, though, so I am not finished yet.

Obviously, I also managed to plug in the computer and to connect to the web, which is rather odd since I have not signed up for any connection yet. Well, if it is not broken, I see no reason to fix it (but since I am a fairly conscientious Swede, I probably will check if I am supposed to do something about it, but not now). Before I go to bed, I intend to route all cables properly, even though I consider setting up the sound system today a fool’s errand.

As for the room itself, I am very satisfied. I think there is space for everything I want and it has a fresh and bright atmosphere. The floor is laminated wood (pine perhaps?) and I have an upside-down pyramid for a lamp; how very nice. I have not yet had the opportunity to speak with many of the other tenants in the corridor (eight in all, including myself), but those I have spoken to, seem to be nice.

Frankly, I needed the pause that writing this entry rendered, but now it is time to go on. Yes, I know it is 1:33 AM, but since I do not have anything scheduled for tomorrow, I will keep going until I fall collapse. Besides, the bed is still jumbled with miscellaneous stuff, so I have not got much choice, have I?

Great! As for Internet, it is probably on since the last tenant. Once their contract runs out you will probably have to sign up. You will be able to sign up directly though, so youwill not be without net-access for more than at most 30 minutes or so.

You could just shove everything from the bed down to the floor. It is a very good solution ;)

I have however had this method in my room in Oslo the past couple of months and I have been getting more and more tired of it. The solution? A trip to IKEA! I’m considering taking before-and-after pictures, but the Before is just so dreadful… The After will be glorious!

But now, on to the cleaning :)

Hey, I need LESS stuff, not MORE! What are you talking about? :) Pictures coming up soon, Arne just left, having taken some photographs and helping me with the last boxes.
