101-in-1001 put on ice

As some of you might have noticed, I have not said very much about progress on the tasks on my 101-in-1001 list. The reason for this is that I decided to abandon the list a few months ago, but for some reason, I forgot to write about it here. The reason I have decided not to complete the list on time is that here in Taiwan, I feel that I ought to take this wonderful opportunity and learn as much Chinese as I can. Focusing on the list would mean that I have less time to learn the language here and, to be honest, that would be stupid. To quote Ralph Waldo Emerson: “A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds.”

However, this does not mean that I regard the items on the list as undesirable, but it does mean that I have not even tried to complete many of them on time. I will still complete them, of course, just not now when I feel I have more urgent projects jockeying for my attention, time and energy. Also, the 101-in-1001 list will be replaced by something else very shortly, even though most of the tasks left will be transferred to the new system. I intend to present this new way of planning things on New Year’s Eve, so stay tuned.

Samma här med. Förutom att jag och Martin inte har en Taiwanresa att skylla på.
