Play marbles

Silly? Yes. Childish? Yes. Funny? Indeed! Earlier today, I and Martin spent roughly an hour playing marbles. We only remembered a couple of games, but not surprisingly, creativity and imagination was not lacking. Towards the end, we ran out of new games, but that was only after the grand final, which involved a box, a cableway and a car tyre with a hole in it. A small boy asked us what we were doing, and after explaining the rules to him, he joined us until a woman, presumably his mother, took him away.

I really enjoyed this. I have not played marbles since I was a child, and remembering some of those games was really fun. Still, it would have been ever more interesting with a broader variety of marbles at hand (we were a bit limited in choice of games, because of the marbles and the sandbox). I am also a bit disappointed that I left my camera at home, this would have been an excellent first event to photograph. Perhaps I shall try to find my bag of marbles next time I visit my parents and have another go?
